DJ Ortiz would like to congratulate all the Kart Racing Solutions drivers that participated this year at the 2010 Rotax Grand Nationals at New Castle Motorsports Park in Newcastle, IN
Rotax Mini Max - 2nd Cole Glasson # 112
Rotax Senior - 23rd Gabe Bargas # 220 (on track collision)
Rotax Senior - 32nd Dean Boyd # 210 (on track collision)
Rotax Masters - 7th DJ Ortiz #417
Cole Glasson made his third trip
to New Castle,
Indiana with his coach / tuner DJ Ortiz of Kart Racing Solutions where
the two
joined the DeFrancesco Racing Team to compete in the 10 year olds 2nd
US Rotax Grand National Event. Last year he finished the event in the
eighth spot but was determined to place even better in 2010. The young
pilot
would compete against a tough 33 kart Mini Max field including his three
teammates (DeFrancesco, Coultston and O' Ward) along with other notable
National contenders of Dalton and Logan Sargent, Kyle Kirkwood, and
Jordan
Perry.
Practice went very well as DJ
and Cole worked
together to get the kart and jetting right for the humid conditions.
Throughout
the practice week, Cole remained in the top 10 spots and was running
consistently well. When official practice began on Wednesday, the final
timed
practice put Cole in the fastest qualifying group for Thursday's
qualifying
session. Cole came out of the gates with a mission to be consistent all
week
and put himself in a position to compete for the title. Cole qualified 7th
out of the field of 33 which would put him starting in the second row of
all of
his heat races. Heat 1 found Cole in P3 and in a good position to get
with the
breakaway pack and finish in P2. Heat 2 and 3 put Cole on the outside of
row
two going into the fast Turn 1. DJ and Cole worked on race strategy to
ensure
he was smart and made the right race decisions not to get in an
incident. Cole
would finish Heat 2 in P2 and Heat 3 in P3. The young driver did exactly
what
he needed to in order to stay in front of the field as he would begin
the final
day on the outside of Row 2 in P4.
The prefinal would be a battle
as the top six
drivers pulled from the field and began making multiple runs to the
front as
they came down the front straight away. Cole would find himself as high
as P3
but could not hold on in the final turns and finished the prefinals in
P6. This
put Cole once again on the "familiar" outside but he was able to
squeeze in and find himself in P4 out of the first few turns. Cole
battled with
the same breakaway group of Perry, D. Sargent, Defrancesco, L. Sargent,
and
Kirkwood as again the pack slowly began pulling from the field. In the
end,
Perry and Cole were able to put a little distance between themselves and
the
next 4 drivers and they battled to the checkered with Perry taking the
top spot
by only 2/10ths and Cole standing on the podium of one of the biggest
National
events. It was a great weekend for the 10 year old who walked away with
three
P2's, a P3, and a P6 over the event schedule.
Cole would like to thank DeFrancesco
Racing and Supertune's Ben Cruttenden who supported him this
weekend along with his teammates Dore Chaponick, Patricio O'Ward,
Sebastien
Coulston, and Devlin Defrancesco along with their tuners. In addition,
special
thanks to Bobby Wilson-Team Manager, Andy DeFrancesco-Team Owner, and
his long
time tuner and coach, DJ Ortiz- KRS Owner, who
kept Cole competing for the front
position all week and gave him the chance to win the event.
Cole is sponsored in 2010 by

The first round of the Pan Am Rotax Challenge races
1 and 2 in MSR Houston was a great success. Congratulations to the
promoters, sponsors, drivers and the MSR Houston staff for their great
effort hosting the first round of the inaugural opening series season of the
Pan Am series. Also thank you to the commentator Oscar Aguilera for the
great updates during the race. The track configuration was changed a
bit for safety reasons, now the straight has an s shape to slow down
the speed a few miles per hour. Kudos to MSR for making the change. The
opening practice demonstrated a very promising and exciting opening
round. Some of the top drivers quickly posted fast times during the
Friday practice sessions.
Saturday opening Qualifying was very exciting for the KRS drivers.
Cole Glasson (Mini-Max) coached by long time tuner DJ Ortiz
quickly moved to the top of the times during Saturday qualifying. Holding the fastest time for a few laps to finished 5th out 10 during
the qualifying session. The pre final was an exciting heat for Cole driving
to a 3rd placed finish. The final was even more exciting for the
spectators, Cole posted the fastest time of the race driving very smart
to a 3 place podium finished.
Congratulations to Cole.
Another KRS driver was Miguel Lopez (Junior Rotax). He was in a driving
battle starting from the middle of the pack. Miguel was caught on a
first lap incident in the pre final and final event on Saturday
falling to back of the field. Miguel drove well to a 12th place finish in the final out of a 17 kart field.
Congratulations to Miguel.
Sunday qualifying was also great day for the KRS drivers.
Cole posted the 4th fastest time during qualifying. During technical
inspection the technical director found a logistic error relegating Cole
to last place on the grid with a DQ. During the pre final and final,
Cole was allowed to used his practice engine only. Unable to be a
contender up front. He finished 7th on the pre final and 6th on the
final. Congratulations to Cole for a great effort during the first round
of the Pan Am Rotax Challenge.
Miguel Lopez
Qualified and raced to a 9th placed finished out 17 in the Sunday race.
The junior class was a battle for position in every corner. These young
drivers are in a time of their driving career were they try to prove to
their fellow drivers who can do the most with the same
equipment. Congratulations to Miguel for the a great effort during the
first round of the Pan Am.
Note: Spec Class engine packages are the true class for upcoming
drivers. The idea of the Rotax engine package again over shadows the rest
of the engine packages readily available on the market.
Round 3 and 4 of the Pan Am Rotax Challenge will be in New Castle,
Indiana on June 11,12,13 of 2010. New Castle is the host of the 2010
Rotax Max Challenge USA National Championship in July of 2010.
Next on the schedule is the CKI-Grand Prix of Phoenix in Glendale, AZ.
Thank you to all. See you at the track. Please send pictures
