The first regional round of the SWRC at OMC
Norman, Oklahoma was an exciting one for Team KRS. The following
drivers participated, Mini-Max drivers Derek Scott, Ryan Lewis, Ethan Burden,
Jacob Loomis, Junior Rotax driver Miguel Lopez and Rotax Senior driver Chaz Nagel.
The Mini-Max class was the biggest of the event
and a very exciting one. There were 15 entries on Saturday and 14 on Sunday. For Derek Scott it was the first regional event working with Coach and Tuner DJ
Ortiz and running an engine prepared by Team KRS. Derek Scott was
able to stay within reach of the podium spots through the weekend finishing 4th
on Saturday and 3rd on Sunday. Congratulations to Derek! Ryan Lewis (95) one of
the youngest drivers in the field under the coaching and tuning of DJ
Ortiz for the first time at OMC track on a Mini-Max came home with very
good results. Ryan is gaining experience and will be a future contender
in the upcoming events. Ethan Burden had some mechanical
issues during the weekend and was unable to get the kart up to speed. Jacob
Loomis finished 3rd and 6th in Rotax MIni Max.
The Junior Rotax class was a great race for Miguel
coming off a long vacation from the Rotax class. He dominated the Saturday event
P1 and Sunday could have been a repeat but do to some tuning errors, he was not
able to do so taking home P8.
The Rotax Senior class was dominated by one of the
newest KRS team drivers, Chaz Nagel. Chaz dominated the weekend setting P1 in qualifying,
P1 in the prefinal and P1 in the finals on both Saturday and Sunday. Congratulations to
Chaz for the fantastic weekend results on board Team
KRS - Tony Kart and Engine package.
In Chaz own words, "The first impression was the "Team Spirit" with
KRS racing. George and DJ were always ready to listen to input and work together
for the best results. Obviously it worked. The engine was at peak performance
all weekend and the chassis was very easy to drive to the front and even easier
to keep it there. I'm looking forward to good things leading up to July at
Miller Motorsports in Tooele, Utah, the host of the 2011 Rotax
Nationals."
This was Chaz' first regional race under the coaching and tuning of DJ
Ortiz. He was able to drive and give great kart and engine feedback to George Shear
and Coach and Tuner DJ Ortiz during the weekend.
Great communication and
feedback from from all the drivers was a great contributor to the
huge success during the weekend. I would like to say thank you to SWRC,
OMC, Tech officials, Track officials, drivers, parents and Team KRS for the
great race results.
