The following is a Rotax member communication from Marshall Martin the Rotax National Race Director.
Friday, March 13, 2009
To all US RMax Members,
Our goal in this communication is just a brief update on some items and rules for 2009. We hope this will clear up any rumors or inaccuracies that may be out there.
Rule book and membership packets:
We are close to having the rule book done. A final proofing should be
done this week with the book going to final production early next week.
We have received the 2009 members t-shirt and the hat is in the final
production stages. The rule book will be delivered on flash drives
this year in place of hard copies of the rule book. We believe the
flash drives will allow everyone a place to not only keep the rule book
but also a place to store tech bulletins and other important
information pertaining to the US RMax Challenge. Once the rule book is
ready it will also be available online in a virtual book format with
hotspot links to all of the advertisers, series and dealers listed. We
will ship once we receive the rulebook and not wait for the hats. Hats
will shipped separately.
Summer Shoot Out
A success program started in 2008 will continue with a July 17-19 date
at the site of the US Grand Nationals. Oklahoma Motorsports Park in
Norman Oklahoma will be your host for both events. As in 2008 this
event will be open to all members, US, Mexico and Canada. Non US RMax
Members will be able to sign up for a temporary weekend membership. We
will make all of the details for this event available in May.
US Grand National Qualifying
To qualify for the US Grand Nationals each participant must compete in
a minimum of 4 races. Three of the races must come in the home series
and the fourth can come from any other US RMax Challenge series race.
To use a race from other than your home series you must be listed on
the official race report submitted to this office.
Full coverage Rear Bumpers
All US Series are moving towards requiring the full coverage rear
bumpers for all classes. This has been a requirement for the Micro
Max, Mini Max and DD2 classes. Effective with the US Grand Nationals
and then for the 2010 season it will be a requirement in Junior, Senior
and Masters classes also. The bumper must cover a minimum of half of
each rear tire but cannot extend past the outside edge of the rear
tire.
Rear Axle Width Under Wet Conditions
In the past the requirement of the rear width being was waived under
wet conditions. Effective immediately this is changing. We were
informed at the 2008 Grand Finals of the correct CIK rule;
CIK Rule 2.7.1.4
Side Body Work - In the case of a "Wet Race" side body work may not be
located outside the plane passing through the outer edge of the rear
tires.
This is the new rule to follow under wet conditions.
Micro Max and Mini Max Body Width Requirements
Mini Max & Micro Max only, Suspend "side pod protrusion" rule.
Change to read "Under all conditions, maximum side pod protrusion
outside of rear wheel is 1/2 inch." No change in front or rear
protection rules including CIK rule 2.5.3 -"In all conditions, the rear
protection must not protrude beyond the external plane of the rear
wheels."
Spec Gear
Micro Max 14 x 73
Mini Max 13 x 82
Dual Engine Seals
Any engine serviced after April of 2008 required the installation of a
second seal on the crankcase in all classes except DD2. This will be
required at the US Grand Nationals.
National Points
For 2009 the best 6 finishes in your home series will be used to
determine each racers points. The awards for the top finishers in the
2008 points were awards certificates that could be used at your local
dealer. For 2009 we will be developing a series of awards for the top
10 that will include Jackets and other types of awards. The prize fund
for 2009 has been tripled over the amount for 2008.
Series Contest for 2009
We feel the contest in which we awarded trips to the World Finals for 4
series officials was very successful. For 2009 we will have another
contest but the exact amount of funding and the payout has yet to be
determined. Once we have determined this we will make the
announcement. The awards and criteria will be announced in early
April. However, you can bet it will based on growing the regional
members, so don’t hold back, go after every new and past Rotax driver
that can walk and chew gum at the same time.
